What Am I Doing?

My working title for the NaNoWriMo novel is Asdfasdf. Yes, I have no idea what I'm doing with my novel. So far we have two characters: Eric, the punctual office guy who's two months away from a promotion; and Jess, Eric's friend who was a prankster in high school and is now a struggling singer. The two meet in a fast food restaurant where Jess notices Eric's change from fellow prankster during high school, to the responsible encoder everyone admires. Why did he change? And will he always be that way? Hopefully these questions will get answered as I continue to type 46,000 more words.

I was able to introduce Bob, Eric's officemate who liked the idea of having a celebrity girlfriend after Eric told him that Jess didn't have a significant other yet. Now he was supposed to be a character with a tiny part; one line and that's it. But, you won't get anywhere writing one liners in your NaNo novel and so he developed into this kinda free-spirited character who bolts out of the office to catch Jess perform in a bar near the office.

Now stay with me, folks, and read well. We have Bob, who wants Jess; Jess, who wants to be famous; and Eric, who doesn't have a clue what he's doing in the story. I smell a love triangle in the making, and that's bad. I have no intention at all of making a love story work.

So, in the interest of preventing a mushy story, I am seriously considering turning Eric into this alien creature who, after hearing Jess sing, turns into this huge armored thingy that will enable him to destroy the world, and the only way to stop him is to have Jess kiss him...hmm.

This is going to be harder than I thought.

Prologue

The entries written here are based on true stories. Whenever possible, non-factual events and situations are labeled to distinguish the real from the imagined. Yes, sometimes the author can tell the two apart.
